Dear Family and Friends,

Hello everyone! I hope you are doing well! I am super excited to share with you what has been going on in this season of my life so far. I am currently a Senior at Rutgers University studying Psychology and Social Work and things are going great! God has done some awesome things in my life this year as well as others around me. I have really been growing in my faith more than ever this year and have been led to go on a mission trip. I have never participated in anything like this and God has really been putting missions on my heart this year. Starting June 17th of this year I am investing in learning and serving alongside missionaries in Berlin, Germany who are doing ministry work among the people of their community and city. The time spent in Berlin is focused on spreading the gospel throughout Berlin by helping in English Camps, VBS programs, Young Adults summer project, Anti-trafficking work, Prayer outreach and prayer walks throughout the city. Berlin is located in the 10-40 window, this is the geographical location of where the population of professing Christians is less than 10%. In Berlin specifically Less than 2% of the population are professing Christians, which means most people in Berlin have gone their whole life without ever even meeting a believer, and this trip would allow those on this trip including myself to share the gospel. This will be an experience to learn and grow along with the local people as well as sharing the love of Christ with everyone I come in contact with.

The trip is through a powerful program called ReachGlobal (ministry of EFCA) that seeks to take groups of 5-10 college-aged participants and place them among long-term missionaries in order to gain a strong sense of what it looks like to be planted in a city and culture for the sake of the gospel. I see God using this trip in several ways:

  1. To encourage local people in Berlin to see who Jesus is and that He saves!
  2. To help me grow in my faith by learning more about responding obediently to God and His plan for my own life
  3. Open my eyes further to the needs of this hurting and broken world by spending time with some of the poorest of the poor and those who endure some of the harshest realities in this world filled with brokenness
  4. To encourage and grow other believers and friends with whom I come into contact and am able to share with what I’ve learned as a result of this trip. Would you partner in sending me to Berlin, Germany? It’s your prayers and financial contribution that make a trip like this one possible. The estimated cost of the trip is $3,500 which includes airfare, costs of living on the ground, transportation within Berlin, Germany, and fees for the ReachGlobal program. Also, I am seeking to build a prayer support team for the safety of our team while in the countries but more importantly, for God’s will to manifest in and through our lives during our time in Berlin, Germany.

Would you commit to supporting me also through prayer? There are two ways to give if you are interested!

  1. Write checks payable to “EFCA” including a note on a separate piece of paper indicating this money is for me. Send the check to: EFCA Donor Services Attn: Apex 901 East 78th St. Minneapolis, MN 55420
  2. Donate at ...

Thank you so much for your consideration of my request. I would love to share more about my walk with Jesus and more about how school is going!

Sincerely, Steven Espaillat

Trip Overview

Berlin, the capital of Germany, is a city unlike any other. It‘s deep history of division, war, reconstruction and reunification had lead to it being a diverse playground for everyone; from the creative to the business professional to the outcast, all are able to find their home in Berlin. And on this trip, you will have a closer look at this diverse city while impacting those who call Berlin home. Less than 2% of the population are professing Christians, which means most people in Berlin have gone their whole life without ever even meeting a believer. That means you could be the first! So, whatever you are passionate about and skills you have to offer, bring them because Berlin can use them!

You will spend the summer working in partnership with our team, alongside of Germany ministries and churches. Each week has a different focus so you can experience the breadth of ministry that exists in Berlin and step out of your comfort zone to see how your talents can impact the urban world.

Housing

Housing is different from year to year. Depending on the group size and ministries the students will be engaged in and where they're located in the city, we choose housing based on that. In the past we have used AirBNB, a hostel, host family, and church. There is a chance that the students will move locations a time or two in the summer, so they should be prepared to carry any luggage they have on public transportation.
