Message from Riley Arlinghaus

Dear Friends and Family,

I am excited to share with you that the Lord has called me to spend this summer in Houston as an intern with ReachGlobal Crisis Response (RGCR). I know that this is where God wants me to grow and serve for this time.

Many are still suffering in both heart and home from the damages caused by Hurricane Harvey. In the wake of disasters, Crisis Response mobilizes to serve needy communities in partnership with local churches through meeting material needs and pursuing discipleship. More than just putting paint on walls or tearing out ruined drywall, ReachGlobal Crisis Response seeks transformation in the lives of hurting homeowners through prayer and fellowship.

I will be working with a Crisis Response team at the church Trinity Fellowship in Friendswood, TX. I had the amazing opportunity to serve last year for a week with ReachGlobal in New Orleans, and I’m so happy to be able to return for the summer. Throughout my amazing freshman year at Hillsdale College, Christ taught me so much about what it means to truly walk with Him daily. I look forward to continuing to grow in my faith this summer and learning from the ReachGlobal staff and teams. I visited one of the work sites in Friendswood during this past spring break, and it was awesome to see the healing that God is bringing to the community through ReachGlobal. God has asked for this time from me, and I delight to do his will (Psalm 40:8).

I know God will use these months powerfully in my life and in the community of Friendswood. I humbly invite you to come alongside me to invest in the kingdom of God through prayer and financial support. I am seeking to raise $3,400 by May 25 to cover my travel and living costs during the internship. Please pray: (1) that God will use ReachGlobal (and me) to testify His goodness and love, (2) that I would be humbled to grow and learn from the missionaries I will be serving with, and (3) that the Gospel will fall afresh on the teams that come to serve and on the homeowners being served.

I am so grateful that you would consider supporting me in this amazing opportunity to glorify God. If you would like to know more about ReachGlobal or what God has been doing in my life, don’t hesitate to contact me!

In Christ,

Trip Overview

Have you ever wondered how you can help those affected by a crisis? In the wake of crisis, God creates a mission field and you can be equipped to respond with the love of Christ to those impacted.

In August 2017, Southeast Texas was devastated by Hurricane Harvey and experienced between 36-60 inches of rainfall over a four-day period. FEMA reported over 500,000 people registered statewide experiencing significant flood damages, including the Houston and Corpus Christi areas where we are focusing our response efforts. Most people did not have flood insurance, leaving many unsure of how will they ever recover. With this is mind, we are partnering with 15 EFCA churches to reach out to the community to not only rebuild homes but to bring the hope of the gospel to those that have lost so much.

ReachGlobal Crisis Response exists to develop, empower, and release the Body of Christ to share His love in times of crisis. We partner with a local church in the impacted area which provides connection points between local believers and those we are serving. We commit to the long-term recovery because this gives way to spiritual conversations as people ask “Why are we still here long after the news cameras have left?” Our desire in the wake of crisis it to both proclaim and portray the love of Christ by coming alongside the physical, emotional, and spiritual needs of those suffering. By serving with us, you too will learn how to proclaim and portray the love of Christ in the context of crisis.

To further this mission, you will develop your leadership skills as you host volunteer teams of all ages. You will teach them how to rebuild homes, prayer walk in communities, and how to live on mission when they return home. You will practice active listening as homeowners share their stories of devastation and practice sharing your faith with those you serve. You will also learn how people serving behind-the-scenes play an integral part in our mission. Yes, the people with gifts in administration, communication, and organization are vital to our ministry’s effectiveness.

We will provide housing through the local church so you can learn more about the church and southern culture. We do encourage those with a vehicle to bring them for ease of transportation. If you do not have a vehicle, book your flights in and out of Houston airports. Your meals will be provided during your stay with us and be prepared for some good ole’ southern cooking like Texas BBQ and authentic Tex-Mex food.

Unfortunately, our world is broken and crises will not come to an end until our Savior returns. However, you can learn now and equip others in the future that in the wake of any crisis, God creates a mission field. Let’s work together now to make the most of every opportunity, not growing weary in doing good for at the proper time we will reap a harvest if we do not give up. (Galations 6).
