Journey to New Orleans

Have you ever wondered how you can help those affected by a crisis? In the wake of crisis, God creates a mission field and you can be equipped to respond with the love of Christ to those impacted.

After 12 years since Hurricane Katrina ravaged the gulf coast and New Orleans, thousands of families are still trying to return home, and many more families are trying raise their kids in poor neighborhoods, among Katrina-damaged buildings in need of restoration. Many feel forgotten. One homeowner, Miss Pat, says "People want restoration because they want community." We are inviting you to partner with us to see a transformed city through a movement of disciple-making, church planting and community investment.

"Its going to take God's people to show what God's Kingdom is, His love, His care and His compassion for the poor and oppressed." John Gerhardt a local pastor of Castle Rock Church said. Since the storm, thousands of volunteers serving on short term teams have aided in the recovery efforts and brought the transforming power of the gospel to New Orleans. They have served, engaged with the local church, prayed and invested in the lives of countless homeowners and their neighbors. Not only that but they have brought what they have learned home with them and have begun to transform their own communities and those around them. Words cannot express the gratitude for each of these volunteers' service to the Kingdom

ReachGlobal Crisis Response exists to develop, empower, and release the Body of Christ to share His love in times of crisis. We partner with a local church in the impacted area which provides connection points between local believers and those we are serving. We commit to the long-term recovery because this gives way to spiritual conversations as people ask “Why are we still here long after the news cameras have left?” Our desire in the wake of crisis it to both proclaim and portray the love of Christ by coming alongside the physical, emotional, and spiritual needs of those suffering. By serving with us, you too will learn how to proclaim and portray the love of Christ in the context of crisis.

To further this mission, you will develop your leadership skills as you host volunteer teams of all ages. You will teach them how to rebuild homes, prayer walk in communities, and how to live on mission when they return home. You will practice active listening as homeowners share their stories of devastation and practice sharing your faith with those you serve. You will also learn how people serving behind-the-scenes play an integral part in our mission. Yes, the people with gifts in administration, communication, and organization are vital to our ministry’s effectiveness.

We will provide housing through local churches so you can learn more about the church and southern culture. We do encourage those with a vehicle to bring them for ease of transportation. If you do not have a vehicle, book your flights in and out of Louis Armstrong International Airport (MSY) in New Orleans. Your meals will be provided during your stay with us and be prepared for some good ole’ cajun cooking like boiled crawfish, shrimp po'boys, and french beignets.

Unfortunately, our world is broken and crises will not come to an end until our Savior returns. However, you can learn now and equip others in the future that in the wake of any crisis, God creates a mission field. Let’s work together now to make the most of every opportunity, not growing weary in doing good for at the proper time we will reap a harvest if we do not give up. (Galations 6).
