Crisis Response, Lake Charles, Louisiana , USA

Destination Overview

About Crisis Response

ReachGlobal Crisis Response exists to develop, empower, and release the Body of Christ to share His love in times of crisis. They partner with a local church in the impacted area which provides connection points between local believers and those they are serving. They commit to the long-term recovery because it opens opportunities for spiritual conversations as people ask, “Why are you still here long after the news cameras have left?” Their desire in the wake of a crisis is to both proclaim and portray the love of Christ by coming alongside the physical, emotional, and spiritual needs of those suffering. By serving with Crisis Response, participants also will learn how to proclaim and portray the love of Christ in the context of crisis. To learn more, go to their website.

Trip Overview

Lake Charles

In August of 2020, Hurricane Laura hit Lake Charles as a category 4 hurricane. It was one of the strongest hurricanes to ever make landfall in Louisiana. Laura left the city of Lake Charles and the surrounding areas completely devastated. The sustained 150 mph winds tore off roofs, brought down trees, and caused severe structural damage. Just six weeks after Laura, Hurricane Delta made landfall as a category 2 hurricane and caused even further damage to the already battered area.

Meet our Missionaries

Currently, our team consists of two couples and two individuals as well as many additional support staff that come in and out to help at the site. Our heart is to grow closer to the Lord and closer to one another as a team. We are building relationships with the community, short term volunteer teams, and the church body as we engage in the rebuilding effort.

How is this site strategic?

Lake Charles is an area that is hurting and in need of Christ’s love and the Gospel. We have the opportunity to come alongside people in the wake of a crisis and help with their physical needs- rebuilding their homes, their emotional needs- building a friendship and trauma care, and their spiritual needs- sharing the Gospel and discipleship. We also have the opportunity to build relationships with our volunteer teams and share with them how they can bring back a renewed passion for reaching their own communities.
