Morehead City, North Carolina, USA
Morehead City is located in what is called the southern outer banks of North Carolina; it’s a beautiful beachy city with lots of wonderful sights. We have a team of 5 permanent staff here, Ryan and Paula (me) Kling, Dave and Connie Leese and Ellis Bosveld. Our city is beautiful, but it has very much a division in it, since it’s a beach town you have very beautiful and affluent houses next to the water, but we also have locals who are struggling to put roofs on their houses.

How is this site strategic?
As a town in Eastern North Carolina, hurricanes are just a part of everyday life. That was until September 14th, 2018, when hurricane Florence made landfall, leaving behind a wake of destruction that was unparalleled by any hurricane anyone here could remember. Crisis such as natural disasters provide us with opportunities to share the gospel in tangible ways that people can see and feel easily. This allows us to build relationships and speak the truth of who Jesus is, and what He is done for us in a way that most people have never heard or experienced before.
Morehead City was hit during Hurricane Florence in 2018 and people are still in the process of recovering. The goal of our teams is to bring the hope of the gospel to those people through meeting their physical needs, whether that be helping tear out moldy materials, or helping to put on a roof and rebuild. The process of meeting physical needs allows us to build relationships and gives us the opportunity to share the gospel and to meet spiritual needs. Our students will have a part to play in a wide range parts of our ministry. This can include working on the construction sites, leading prayer times or bible studies, building relationships with homeowners, guiding and encouraging our short-term volunteers, and much more!
